Summer Fest on the Eastside

Join us this year on the Eastside of the Russian River for Summer Fest on Saturday, August, from 11 am to 4 pm. The wineries participating in East of the Russian River include Acorn Winery, Christie Winery, Christopher Creek, Foppiano, Limerick Lane Cellars, and Mietz. There is no charge for this event, and no reservations are required. The wineries will serve food as well as offer special wines and new releases.

What to do on a Summer day? Well, join us on the Eastside of the Russian River at some very special wineries and watch the grapes grow. At Christopher Creek barrel sample our 2006 Dry Creek “Finlay’s Vineyard” Cabernet Sauvignon and our 2006 Russian River Estate Bottled Reserve Syrah. This will be the last day to order futures of these wines. Our 2006 Russian River “Catie’s Corner” Viognier, 2006 Late Harvest Viognier and 2005 Russian River Estate Bottled Reserve Syrah will be released. We will be serving ranch style food. Bring your friends and family. Come to Christopher Creek first, for a map and menu.

New Releases

2005 Russian River Estate Bottled Reserve Syrah

The 2005 Estate Bottled Reserve Syrah was produced from a selection of Syrah barrels that showed the best aging potential. The wine reflects the exceptional quality of grapes grown on our hillside estate vineyard at the winery.

Produced in the classical French style from multiple clones of Syrah grapes grown at the winery site, our 2005 Estate Bottled Reserve Syrah’s color is dark violet and the layered fruit ranges from black cherry to blackberry with a hint of pomegranates and with peppery and smoky accents. On the palate, the texture is smooth with a very long complex, jammy finish created by the rich, yet soft, tannins.

Properly cellared, we would expect this wine to age well for 8-to-10 years. Versatile with food, Syrah pairs well with grilled red meat dishes, duck, Mediterranean-style food (olive oil, garlic, rosemary and thyme are its friends) as well as spicy food and cheeses.

  • Harvested September 2005
  • 3.1 tons/acre
  • Aged in French oak barrels
  • pH 3.65 at bottling
  • Released August 2007
  • 426 cases produced
  • $30.00/bottle
    (Cellar Club Members $24.00)

2006 "Catie's Corner" Viognier

The 2006 Viognier, as in previous years, is produced from Catie’s Corner Vineyard in the Russian River Valley, a vineyard developed by Saralee Kunde. Viognier (V-Own-Yeah) is an enjoyable white wine whose grapes have their origin in the Rhone Valley appellations of Condrieu and Chateau Grillet.

The 2006 Viognier has a complex nose of apricot, peach, pear, citrus (lemon) and wild flowers. The mouth feel is harmoniously balanced between richness and lively acidity. The finish is marked by long lasting flavors reflecting the fruity and floral aromas.

Food friendly, Viognier pairs well with fish, spicy foods, Asian infusions, crab, lobster, rice pudding or just drink it as an aperitif. Serve slightly chilled to enhance the fruit characteristics of the wine. The grapes were whole berry pressed and then fermented in a stainless steel tank at low temperature to preserve the varietal’s aromas. The wine was aged in the tank on the fine lees to build rich mouth feel and crisp finish.

  • Harvested October 2005
  • 3.2 tons/acre
  • pH 3.37 at bottling
  • 492 cases produced
  • Released August 2007
  • $28.00/bottle
    (Cellar Club Members $22.40
